Society Announcement

We have recently completed a comprehensive review of Doctor Who Appreciation Society activities with a view to having plans in place to ensure that the Society continues to be vibrant, innovative and relevant well beyond its upcoming 50th anniversary in 2026. The world is changing fast and DWAS needs to adapt accordingly.

Despite 2023 being one of our most successful years ever in terms of output, the financial climate we continue to face has proven extremely challenging. Moving forward, we envisage it will be very difficult continuing to provide members with the same value for money that they have previously enjoyed and expect from us, a fact reinforced by the latest Royal Mail price increase announced on Friday.

As a result we’re going to be making some positive, essential changes to secure our long term future and also to extend the reach of our services. The following will therefore be implemented.

With effect from 1st April 2025, DWAS will cease to be a paying membership society. Members can continue to renew up to this date on a pro-rata payment basis. The Society magazine Celestial Toyroom (CT) will become a quarterly online publication accessible by all at no charge. We know that many current members enjoy a physical publication and to this end, printed copies will also be available to pre-order and be purchased separately each quarter.

Society events including conventions and other occasional DWAS publications will continue as normal. We hope you are as excited as we are about these changes and look forward to having you with us as DWAS nears its golden anniversary!
