The Doctor Who Appreciation Society is proud to announce The Capitol Five - a full scale, two day event which will take place at the Crowne Plaza, London Gatwick over the weekend of the 15th/16th May, 2021.

As with all DWAS events, The Capitol Five will offer a mix of guests panels, on screen presentations, autographs, photo studio, merchandise and much more...

We pride ourselves on offering a well organised convention at the very best possible value around.

Special events, as well as a plethora of guests, are planned for the weekend, with details being revealed over the coming months. Stay tuned.

Crowne Plaza Gatwick

This full scale event will take place over the weekend 15th/16th May 2021 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel London - Gatwick Airport.

This elegant Crawley hotel, just a mile from the station, has a restaurant, two bars, conference centre and onsite parking. The comfortable bedrooms have free WiFi, USB chargers and satellite TV, as well as the Sleep Advantage programme, which offers premium bedding and quiet zones so you won’t be disturbed.

The Cube Restaurant serves delicious, locally sourced food for breakfast and dinner, and drinks and light meals are available all day in Bar 92.

Terms and Conditions

This tells you about the terms and conditions under which 'The Capitol' is presented. This is not an exhaustive list, so if you have any other questions please contact us.

(a) The event is presented by Space Rocket Ltd, DWAS acting as an agent only, incurring no contractual liability. Space Rocket Ltd trades as 'The Capitol'.

(b) Any additional services you might purchase from the venue or merchandise dealers (such as food, books, photographs etc) are a separate arrangement between yourself and the vendor, and not part of the event package.

(c) We make no assurances that the event will actually take place on the date and venue specified or that any advertised guests and features will appear. Every aspect of the event is advertised in good faith but circumstances outside of our control may affect it. The liability of Space Rocket Ltd. shall not extend further than the individual ticket price. All aspects of the event are subject to change and cancellation without prior notice. Event timings as published on this website and elsewhere are a guide only. The full schedule will only be available on the day.

(d) Combined Membership and Event Ticket - when choosing this option you are making two distinct purchases; an event registration at the prevailing rate from Space Rocket Ltd, and 12 months DWAS membership (being represented by the balance paid) purchased directly from the Doctor Who Appreciation Society, with Space Rocket Ltd acting as an agent for the transaction only. (e) All tickets are non-refundable. This is to ensure the financial viability of the event. If you do not wish to proceed with your booking please advise us in writing within seven days of confirmation in order to obtain a refund. Bookings made on or after 7th May 2021 are excluded from the seven days cancellation period and are not refundable from the time of booking.

(f) Photography and audio/video recording within the event will only be permitted within specified areas at our absolute discretion. No recording will be permitted of the main part of the event.

(g) The organiser reserves the right to exclude any person who does not abide by the terms and spirit of the event, with no refund of the booking price.

(h) It is not permitted to bring food or drink purchased outside the venue into the covention rooms.

(i) Buying or selling merchandise or trading in other ways, and undertaking any type of journalistic activity is not permitted without the prior written consent of the organiser.

(j) The event is not licensed or approved by the BBC or BBC Worldwide. It is non-profit making, run by fans, for fans.

Accessibility

The Crowne Plaza is a modern conference venue offering good access for people with disabilities and additional needs.

However, if you will require reasonable adjustments to be made in order to attend and enjoy the event we will seek to assist you if notified in advance.

If you wish to ask specific questions about the venue you may wish to contact the hotel directly. Similarly, if you are booking accommodation and require an accessible room please ensure you notify the hotel of this to ensure your needs can be met.

Autographs

Unless otherwise stated, two free autographs will be available from guests signed on personal items. This is to be fair to all attendees. It may be possible for you to re-queue for more signatures but this will be dependant on time being available.

Some guests may have a separate autograph policy applied. This will be made clear when the guests are announced. This may extend to a requirement to purchase an item to obtain a signature or to pay an additional fee. This will only be applied in order to make the number of guests attending commercially viable.

Autographs are for personal use only. Some guests may insist on a dedication. If the guest or organiser believes that autographs are being obtained for commercial reasons then access may be restricted.

Cosplay Contest

We're delighted to announce our first Cosplay Contest.

There are two categories: Group and Solo.

Registration must be made
no later than April 30th 2021

Your e-mail should contain the following information:

a) Name
b) Event Registration Number
c) Costume (with photo)

Rules:

1. Costumes must have something to do with the Whoniverse, and must be mostly made by either yourself or someone else on your behalf. Off the shelf costumes are NOT allowed.

2. Should you feel like playing/performing your character there is a time limit of one minute. This is to be fair to all entrants.

3. Contestants under the age of 18 are very welcome to take part but a parent/guardian should be present at the contest. We will also require a signed consent from that parent/guardian to allow the contestant to take part.

4. All costumes must cover "swimsuit areas" – so no nudity! Body-paint costumes are not eligible for craftsmanship.

5. Each contestant may enter one costume into the contest, in either the solo OR group category. Groups should contain between two and four entrants (max).

6. There will be a mandatory pre‐contest meeting at 6.30 pm on Saturday 15th May 2021. This is where we will check-in participants and explain procedures and etiquette. Some Pre-judging will also occur at this time.

7. Only contestants (and helpers if necessary) will be allowed in the pre-contest meeting, and may not bring any other personal effects with them. Entrants must arrive in costume.

8. The running order for both categories will be drawn at random during the pre contest meeting.

9. The Contest itself is scheduled to start at 8.50pm, on Saturday 15th May 2021 as part of the evening entertainment. Contestants must arrive in the holding area at least 10 minutes in advance of this. Any changes to timings will be advised from the lectern at the end of Saturday's panels.

10. During the contest you must enter and exit the stage at the designated points.

11. Contestants are not allowed to throw anything off the stage, nor use projectiles or indeed anything that will leave a mess. This includes (but is not limited to) liquids, glitter and confetti. No pyrotechnics, fire, explosive devices, or similar special effects may be used during the contest. Any prop weapons must be checked in advance. 12. The winners of the competition will be determined by a jury of five people which will include at least one of the guest stars and an experienced Cosplayer.
