Doctor Who artwork to be auctioned in aid of transplant research

Ian Stacey has written to us with the following information:

Starting on the 4th of July during transplant week the Art for Hearts auction will be auctioning original artwork and signed prints based on the world of Doctor Who. Artwork has been donated by professional Doctor Who artists Lee Binding, Anthony Dry, Colin Howard, Peter McKinstry, Adrian Salmon and Andy Walker. Mike Tucker from the Model Unit has also donated a signed concept sketch. The event will be kick-started with the auction of an original commission by artist Pete Wallbank.

All proceeds from the auction will go towards funding research at Great Ormond Street into organ transplantation. This is a cause which is very important to me as my young son’s life was saved following a heart transplant at the hospital. Although transplants do save lives they are not a cure as these organs age more quickly than non-transplanted organs. Furthermore, the drugs needed to suppress the immune system do take their toll on other organs.
