Society Announcement

We have recently completed a comprehensive review of Doctor Who Appreciation Society activities with a view to having plans in place to ensure that the Society continues to be vibrant, innovative and relevant well beyond its upcoming 50th anniversary in 2026. The world is changing fast and DWAS needs to adapt accordingly.

CT Editor

We have an exciting opportunity with a vacancy for our new Celestial Toyroom (CT) Editor. This is initially a 12 month voluntary role working with the DWAS executive team on CT between July 2023 and June 2024.

The job includes the following:

Whittaker & Chibnall to leave Doctor Who

The BBC have announced that Jodie Whittaker and Chris Chibnall will be leaving next Autumn. Series 13 will consist of just six episodes, with three specials to follow in due course.

Stephen Payne RIP

News has reached us of the death of Stephen Payne, the Society's first ever Co-Ordinator.

Stephen was one of the founders of DWAS, alongside fellow luminaries Jan Vincent-Rudzki and Gordon Blows, serving as Co-Ordinator from 1976 to 1980.

The Capitol FIVE - IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Although the UK has made huge progress in rolling out a CoVid vaccine, it’s become clear that social distancing requirements that would allow our event to go ahead are unlikely to have been sufficiently relaxed by May, and as such, we have taken the reluctant decision to defer the event for a third time.

The Capitol FIVE - IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Given the enormous difficulty of ensuring the safety of well over 300 people in an environment designed to allow close contact, we have regretfully taken the decision to reschedule The Capitol FIVE to the weekend of 15th/16th May 2021.

Terrance Dicks - A Celebration. Update

Whilst we hoped to reschedule to another date this autumn, it is becoming increasingly unlikely that this will happen. As such we have, in full consultation with the Dicks family, decided it is best to reschedule for a new date, probably in Spring 2021.

The Capitol CONtact has been made - Online event

We are delighted to announce “The Capitol CONtact has been made”, a virtual event that will launch at 10.00am BST on Saturday 25th April. We have specifically chosen this time and date as it’s when “The Capitol FIVE” was originally scheduled to get underway.

The Capitol FIVE - a post reschedule update

As some time has now passed since we announced the rescheduling of The Capitol FIVE, and with six months until the doors re-open, we wanted to update you on how things are shaping up.

A new, limited, batch of weekend tickets will go on sale in due course. The Crowne Plaza also has a limited selection of rooms available for Friday, Saturday and Sunday night.

The Capitol FIVE - IMPORTANT INFORMATION

With the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Covid-19, we have taken the decision to reschedule The Capitol FIVE to the weekend of the 3rd/4th October. We have, in particular, have been guided by both the likelihood of self-isolation for the over 70’s being introduced and also the fact that it is projected that the, in the UK, the peak will be in late Spring.
